Saturday We Also Went to SpringFest. ITS FREE MOM - FREE.

Now that Heather can read I'm so blessed when she goes over to Nana's house because she finds time to read the paper and see what she's missing on our end.  Sure enough, she came home excitedly - Mom, Mom, Mom look - guess what?! Let me show you....SPRINGFEST.

Me: Ummm.....I kind of made other plans.
H: But its FREE.
Me: I would rather have my teeth pulled out one by one.
H: MOM.  OMG.  its FREE.  Take me.  Please Mom Please?!
Me: I mean I had plans....
H: Where?
Me: Hiking.
H: What's the address?  Oh look - its close by!  Siri can you tell Mom how close it is?

Technology is killing me folks. KILLING ME.

So after hiking, off to Springfest we went.  After cursing for 15 minutes attempting to find parking, we wandered around and came across this sad little petting zoo that the kids were very excited about.  Waited in line for 25 minutes for Trevor to run once through an inflatable obstacle course and waited in line for 40 minutes for Heather to halfway climb up the wall.

They were happy....that's the most important thing - I'll keep telling myself that......

Saturday We Visited A New Place.

We visited a refuge I remember a little bit from a school field trip in my childhood.  I only remembered the name and not much about it so we went and were totally surprised by the experience.  You drive and drive and drive through the forest and then come up to a toll booth and pay 4 dollars to get in and then you drive and drive and drive through the forest.  We finally came up on a trail and hiked through the woods for quite a ways and finally came upon the marsh - it was really beautiful.  The kids saw an otter and were so excited.  There was a playground to run around as well.  Then they got to hike along the beach and picked up various snail shells, sponges, sticks.  After that we visited the nature center where they have a few live exhibits and visited the frog/turtle pond behind it.  Trevor and Heather tried their hardest to catch the 5 lined skinks there but missed every time.

I tried so hard to get a nice photo of the two of them - Trevor was NOT having it.  He did not like his sister constantly touching him.  I finally had to bribe him to get the photo below.

Sunday We Tried Out Our New Scooters and Bikes!

We purchased a set of scooters and bikes so we could keep some at Grandpa's and Grandma's.  Trevor had outgrown his old one and we are trying to learn how to ride without training wheels (we are pros at coasting).  Heather wrapped Daddy around her finger and got the big 10 speed.  I was definitely not ready for her to have such a grown up bike.  Trevor's new helmet cracks me up!

Saturday was a Chilly Spring Hike in the Woods

Spring Also Brings Huntley Meadows Field Trips.

Heather is really into birds this year.  She is out there with her bird books and binoculars identifying all the species.  Trevor is the frog man. He can find any frog any where.  Mama has been tasked with snakes.  Quite the trio!  The kids were quite surprised to see what beavers can really do to an ecosystem.  It will be interesting to see how much longer the wetlands staff put up with it!  They also found turtles, voles, muskrats - quite a day of critters!

Just having popcorn next to a green rough snake Mom - don't worry about it!

Mom look here!  Green tree frog! (don't know how he found it!)

Our First Bowling Game

The kiddos went bowling and we invited some of their friends to join.  Trevor lost interest after the third ball. Heather ended up with a few strikes and won first place.
